Consultant, Project Manager, Brand and Website Designer

The mission here was to create a new kind of recruitment website for the construction industry. It was so employers in the construction industry could directly reach employees in the sector and vice versa.

The basic premise was to cut out the agencies and put the two interested parties in direct contact and make the process much easier for them both.

The people behind it; one who runs his own electrical contracting business and the other has lots of experience in recruitment. They had both seen the frustrations, particularly for the subcontractors, of the current ways of hiring in the construction sector. In particular, those that were charging a fee for little reward.

The idea was to make their service free for the employee to sign up and apply for jobs and for the employer to either have pay-as-you-go for ads or choose a subscription. As well as the user-facing website I also conceived and designed the portal that was needed to administer it.

In summary, to create a simplified, unified place to look for work or hire subcontractors.

This is how I made it happen:

As the project manager I:

  • Sourced and vetted a build team with suitable eCommerce and WordPress integration experience.
  • Liaised between the client and the build team
  • Set meeting agendas and took minutes
  • Took charge of build quality control

As UX/UI designer I:

  • Illustrated the key user journeys
  • Found a build team with the necessary capabilities
  • Briefed the build team initially and liaised with them throughout
  • Ensured that the project remained on budget
  • Created the Find A Start brand identity
  • Designed the entire website UX and UI
  • Wrote or edited all the copy for the website
